Bahamas Gospel Music Awards to host nominee-reveal event

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — With the Bahamas Gospel Music Awards (BGMA) well on its way, just two months shy from the award date, the official BGMA Nominee Release might be held on Monday, April 12, at 8pm on Elev8tion Now via Facebook.

The event might be hosted by DJ Godson and Gandhi Pinder, and have performances by DJ Councilor, Latasha Taylor, Antonio Rolle and Leonardo Evans.

Travis Edgecombe, BGMA CEO, said: “We’re pleased with the overwhelming support from the gospel community, with over 150 submissions from various gospel artists throughout the country. Finally, we have now been in a position to narrow down the nominees for every category to 6 and we’re looking forward to June twelfth.”

The varied categories includes: Artist of the Yr, Male Artist of the Yr, Female Artist of the Yr, Hip-Hop Artist of the Yr, Song of the Yr, Junkanoo/Rake ‘n’ Scrape Song of the Yr, Traditional Gospel Song of the Yr, Contemporary Song of the Yr, Music Video of the Yr, Producer of the Yr, Album of the Yr and more.

Viewers might be allowed publicly to vote for Radio Personality of the Yr and Radio Station of the Yr.

Special Honorary Award recipients might be Gospel Hip-Hop Artist Najie Dun for the Trailblazer Award and The Bahamas’ top gospel ensemble, Shaback, for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The BGMA is asking the gospel community to register in its Gospel Music Academy, becoming a voting member to help in selecting one winner for every category. The fee is $25.

The inaugural award show might be hosted continue to exist Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 8pm, hosted by comedian Jaquay Adderley and news reporter Jillian Gray. Adhering to COVID protocols, the award show might be virtual and have performances by top gospel artists.
