Buju, Beres for New Yr’s concert

Buju Banton and Beres Hammond are setting the tone for 2023 with a show dubbed Intimate Concert on New Yr’s Day at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove, St Ann.

“What will we do in the beginning of the yr in Jamaica? On New Yr’s night we used to go to Grand Market; they cut out that. We have not had a Grand Market in three years. We used to light off couple ‘clappaz’ [firecrackers] an’ we cyaa do dat no more ’cause Babylon think a shot di people dem a fyah. So come we sing some song, nuh! And rejoice wid music and upliftment,” Buju Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, told the Jamaica Observer shortly after the concert’s media launch on Thursday on the RoK Hotel in Kingston.

The event will even see appearances by Marcia Griffiths, L.U.S.T, considered one of Buju Banton’s protégés who operates under the moniker Mitch, and more.

That is the primary staging of the Intimate Concert, which is predicted to be an annual gig.

Within the meantime, Buju Banton says though he and his fellow fundamental act will not be in the identical country, the preparation goes well.

“Beres shouldn’t be here [because] he’s been performing some stuff within the Americas. Nevertheless, I’m here and I’m capable of hold the burden for each of us and I don’t complain. We wish the masses to know that regardless of what is going on on, our music means representation and I’m capable of arise and represent,” he said.

The 2 will even be entering the recording booth to ascertain an album for release next April.

“We’re working on an album coming out next yr April. I do not wanna let you know the title yet, or nothing in that regard, but keep in mind [that] within the last three years we couldn’t talk while we’re learning. So, we spent the last three years learning. Have I learned? Yes. I believe I’ve gotten some knowledge to talk on what I’ve seen, experienced and research. Now it is time to speak. You do not speak unless you recognize what you talking about,” Banton shared.

In Hammond’s absence, he sent a video recording that was displayed on the launch expressing his anticipation for the concert and apologising for his absence on account of “circumstances beyond his control”.

“I’m looking forward for all of us to start out the yr proper. The primary of January, remember, Grizzly’s Entertainment Complex, I’m expecting to see you all,” Beres said in his address.
