Witnesses to latest homicide describe incident as frightening

Witnesses to the country’s latest gun-related homicide have described the incident as frightening and chaotic.

The shooting, in the realm of the Blackwoods Screw Dock in Cavans Lane, The City, has left one man dead and three others injured.

Police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A police spokesperson told Barbados TODAY  that Rashad Mathurin, 26, of Westbury Road, St Michael, was shot and killed.

One man, who didn’t wish to be identified, said he was in the realm when the shooting occurred. He said the scene was the same old party vibe until gunfire erupted.

“There was a ship that now docked … and shots began to fireside from there,” he said.

One other witness said that after the shooting began, a bunch of individuals began running and exchanging gunfire with one another as patrons on the boats in the realm began to run for canopy.

Police arrived shortly after the shooting and ordered that the music be turned off and other people clear the scene.

“They told us to shut off the music [because] they wanted everyone from on the market evacuated, so we now have to shut off the whole lot.”

Police said Larry Omar Clarke, 42, of Greenfield St Michael; Eva Goodridge, 27, of Appleby St James and 31-year-old Akeem Andrew Arthur, of Ferniehurst Black Rock, St Michael were injured and brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. (SB)
